Dr. Chu is a native Texan and graduated from Fort Worth Country Day School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Emory University. He is proud to come from a family of eye care professionals. His mother Lena Chu, OD and brother, Robert Chu, O.D. have practiced in Fort Worth for over 37 years combined. This family experience has helped him gain a deep appreciation for ocular disease and a compassion for patient care which served him well throughout medical school. He graduated from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007 and was awarded the Marilyn A. Schaffner Award Scholarship for being an outstanding physician.

Dr. Nathaniel Cleaveland is a Board Certified Surgical Ophthalmologist working at Mountain Eye Associates in western North Carolina. He offers comprehensive medical eye exams, as well as medical and laser treatment of glaucoma, and places a great value working with patients to explain disease processes and treatment plans.
Dr. Cleaveland is originally from Sylva, North Carolina, and received his undergraduate degrees in Biology and English from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then completed his medical degree with Honors from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by an Internship and Surgical Ophthalmology residency training with Michigan State University where he won awards for his research and surgical skill. After completing his training, Dr. Cleaveland served in the southside Virginia region for 4 years, where he performed thousands of ophthalmic procedures. He served as the hospital Chief of Ophthalmology as well as President of the local Medical Society, and won awards for lectures to medical students and residents. Dr. Cleaveland is excited to now serve and bring the highest quality Ophthalmic surgical care to his patients in western North Carolina.
