FAQs Surgical Options vs. Hearing Aids
There are several surgical options for people that have used hearing aids but begin having more difficulty as they continue to lose hearing. Cochlear Implants typically have good results once the hearing has declined to a range where hearing aids won’t help. A good benchmark is when patients have trouble talking on the phone even with hearing aids, they may be ready to consider a Cochlear Implant. There are also a number of implantable hearing aids that have worked a little better than standard hearing aids for more advanced hearing loss. These would typically be helpful for patients that are not yet ready for Cochlear Implants. Candidacy criteria for these surgeries are very specific, so evaluation by an Otolaryngologist or Audiologist will be necessary to determine if it would be right for you.
